Niger : National Oral tradition Project
The Audio-visual Service (SERVA) of the Institute for Research in Human Sciences (IRSH) of the Abdou Moumouni University of Niamey (Niger) has a substantial collection in the field of oral traditions. The sound archives consist of audio recordings (on tapes), ethnographic films and photographs. Many of them date from the 1950s. All were in a precarious state of conservation and were exposed to certain deterioration. It was in the concern to save it by digitizing it and to make the rich oral heritage it houses better known that the IRSH initiated the « Niger: Oral Tradition Project » in 2018.
The project received financial support from the Gerda Henkel Foundation.
